SKARDU: A two-day 10th Dawn National Education Spelling Bee competition started here on Wednesday. The completion is being organised by the Dawn Media Group in collaboration with the US State Department and the Grace Association, Skardu.

Besides teachers and parents, over 200 students aged between nine to 17 years belonging to 29 schools of Baltistan region are participating in the completion which has been held here for the last four years.

During the first session, 165 students from different schools participated in the event. Sara Ali Jan from Public School and College, Skardu secured the first position and Farheen Zahra and Sara Naseem of the same college obtained second and third spots, respectively, in age group of nine to 11 years.

For the age group between12 to 14 years, Ali Ayan from Pepperdine School, Skardu was declared the winner, while Mohaddisa Zehra of Public School and College, Skardu, and Zubair Ahmed from the Pepperdine School stood second and third, respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, Skardu deputy commissioner Abid Ali congratulated the position holders and hoped that they would also strive in future to become national champions.
