KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has called off its sit-ins after a few more activists of the party arrested during a late Wednesday raid were released.
The party had held sit-ins at 11 spots across the city, including outside the Chief Minister House, in protest against a raid on one of its sector offices which resulted in the arrest of party workers in Karachi.
Soon after the demonstrations were called off, educational institutions in the city announced the resumption of academic activities. Examinations would also be held according to today's schedule at the University of Karachi.

The announcement of calling off the protests came from party leader Faisal Sabzwari who announced that sit-ins across the city were being called off after negotiations with the government.
Speaking to Dawn, MQM’s Farooq Sattar said that officials concerned have accommodated certain demands of the party and both sides have reached a negotiated settlement.
The party leader added that seven of the detained party workers have been released and a legal procedure would be followed for the rest.
Moreover, Sabzwari also said that the MQM leadership was in contact with the federal and provincial governments and other state institutions for the release of party workers, adding that almost half of them had now been released.
He further said MQM always stood for justice and against tyranny, adding that “criminal elements who should be prosecuted, not political activists".
