PESHAWAR: A retired senior police officer, who was shot at and injured by unidentified armed men on Sept 25, succumbed to his wounds at Hayatabad Medical Complex here on Monday.

An official of Hayatabad police station said that former superintendent of police Hayat Khan residing in Phase-I of the township was targeted by unknown motorcyclists outside his residence while on way home from a mosque after evening prayers.

The deceased remained under treatment in the intensive care unit but could not survive. He had sustained bullet injuries on his head.

Amir Khan, son of the deceased, told local police that his family had no enmity with anyone and that his father was targeted by unidentified terrorists. He said that his father had served in CID and other departments and played effective role against outlaws.

Police said that a case against unknown terrorists had been registered at the Hayatabad police station and further investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two robbers who deprived a woman of Police Colony of valuables and cash.

The arrested persons were identified as Kamran of Afghanistan and Bin Ameen of Faisal Colony, Peshawar. They had stolen a laptop, two 30-bore pistols, Rs5,000 and two tola jewellery from the residence of Habiba in limits of Nasir Bagh police station a few days ago. — Bureau Report
