LAHORE: A youth was killed after a guard of an influential person fired on him following a quarrel near PTCL Exchange on Mian Ghazi Road, Defence, on Wednesday evening.
The victim’s family alleged one of the guards deployed with former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani’s son Abdul Qadir Gilani fired on Malik Tahir, who was allegedly trying to overtake their vehicle.
However, Defence A police said it was not yet verified if the shooter was a policeman deployed in Qadir’s entourage. Police registered a case under sections 302 and 109 of the PPC and 7 ATA against Qadir and his six guards.

Police said 24-year-old Malik Tahir of Wapda Town was going on a motorbike in Y Block of DHA along with his brother Waheed at the time of the incident.
The family and relatives of the victim protested against police by placing his body on Ghazi Road. They demanded a stern action against the suspects who fled from the scene.
Later, they staged a sit-in outside the house of the former prime minister in Y Block and were sitting until the filing of this report.
Cantonment SP (Operations) Muhammad Nadeem said preliminary police findings showed that Tahir and his brother were coming from Bhatta Chowk when they tried to overtake two vehicles.
Quoting Waheed, the SP said the brothers got into an argument with the driver of one of the vehicles – a land cruiser -- for not giving them space to overtake. One of the guards in the vehicle opened fire and a bullet hit Tahir in the head who died on the spot. He said though the family alleged involvement of a guard of Qadir Gilani, but the police were not verifying the claim.
DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf told Dawn the bullet that hit the victim had been fired from an SMG. He said the sole witness to the incident gave police the registration number of the suspects’ vehicle and police were investigating it.
He said efforts were under way to contact the former premier and his son, adding Qadir, who was usually provided a police escort, was travelling with his private guards during Eid days.

It is time for people of Pakistan to raise their voice against the VIP culture of Pakistan.
The problem is we have a large number of VIPs. I think we should only consider 4 people as the VIP (the President, Prime minister, Chief of Army Staff and Chief Justice). Other than that none should be given VIP protocol and none should be allowed to carry weapons.
But the previledge class will never allow such thing unless we have a strong and clean leader at the top who can make sure the rule of law and elemination of VIP culture.

A lot of people are with these politicians because they are against IK. The problem is that you don't have to be with IK to be against these corrupt people. Once the system changes, you can vote for whomever you want. But at least until then stand up with whoever is trying to change the system.

This is another example of a corrupt VIP culture where the VIPs driving in their huge SUVs cannot tolerate to be slowed down by a small car or a bike. Unfortunately it reflects our national norms.

I wonder who made Abdul Qadir Gilani a VIP. Remember this guy with a fake BA degree. His case was still in court.....I don't know what happened to his case. All the fake degree holder MNA were asked to reimburse all their salaries and perks to the national exchequer. What happened to this case. Nothing so far. An innocent person was killed by a so called VIP personal guard. Perhaps the guard was ordered to kill this overtaker of VIP car ......Gilani should be put to jail .....hope justice is done and both Gilani and guard are hanged in public. VIPs should be taught a lesson.
Please please listen to IK and public could get rid of so called feudal landlords and politicians.

I do not want to use the term 'VIP culture' like it has been used in many comments here.
1- VIP is the term used for dignified and honorable people of higher standing. These waderas and spoiled brats are not VIP by any stretch of imagination.
2- Culture is used for a way of life, usually in a positive context. The savage behavior of these people is savagery, not culture. These vultures live by sucking the blood of common people and are very far from a civilized culture.

The culprits should be given exemplary punishment so that no such incident takes place in future. But I am 100% sure that the culprits will soon be set free and will be enjoying normal life. What to say of punishment, politicians here on this Land being powerful can not even be touched or looked down upon. Let's have just pity on general public of this country particularly those who are weak as there is no one, no institution, no law which could mete out justice to them. May Allah protect the weak!

Just a little argument and a man is shot & killed ! How long it is going to take to investigate this murder ? 14 were gunned down in last June in Lahore, whatever happened to that case ? Similarity is here, VIPs are not charged, never imprisoned. Same story all over.

This VIP culture will never go until we side with the people who are clearly against it. As most of the people have already stated before me Imran Khan seems to be the only person who can get us there. I hope he gets to implement what he is promising over the years once he becomes Prime Minister (Insha-Allah) because it won't be easy getting all the stolen money & assumed power out of these so called VIP's.

@Asad Sir Mr. Geelani's son was abducted earlier so they were extra conscious but what IK says is wrong too. Everyone who has threats can take private guard but without interrupting lives of common man. IK has put us all face to face in an absurd confrontation. Finally police should investigate and should do justice on every cost. Sympathies with the parents of deceased.

maybe the guards felt the boys on the motorbike were a threat.The kind of argument that they exchanged could have been threatening one and this could be why the guard shot at them.The police must make thorough investigation before implicating anyone.

PPP may try to use the current situation in Pakistan --- and ask for a favor from NS. ( to let go Qadir Gillani). After all PPP has been in kahuts with NS all along , protecting him . Now is the time for a favor back.

They fled the scene. Wow, can you imagine in any other country what does it mean fleeing a murder scene? Whether you shot or not yourself but you were in the car used for murder.. They should have been arrested and locked up without bail as it is a murder crime.

No outcry from civil society this time like when Shahzeb was killed simply because Shazeb also came from an influential family. Gilani's son murdering this poor motorcycle riding kid is no different and maybe even worse simply because the killer is gonna get away with it. He died in vain simply because he lives in a country where such ruling elite will kill you first and ask questions later.
