ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has planned to induct another 10 A320 aircraft and five 60-seater ATR 72 aircraft on a six-year dry lease.

These aircraft will be inducted in the fleet in the near future.

The national flag carrier has received a delivery of two A320 aircraft from Air VIA-Bulgarian Airways on wet lease while it has acquired two latest technology fuel efficient Boeing 737-800 aircraft on wet lease from Turkish based Corondon Airlines.

These aircraft have arrived at Jinnah International Airport Karachi and will be deployed on domestic and international routes, a PIA spokesman in Islamabad said.

“These aircraft are being put into operation immediately and are to be deployed on domestic and international routes,” he added.

The induction of more fuel efficient aircraft in the fleet will help increase revenue for the airline, provide better services to customers and improve the flight schedule of the airline.

The aircraft are being inducted keeping in view the airline's requirement and with complete transparency in accordance with PPRA rules, he added.

In July and August, the national flag carrier received a delivery of A320 aircraft on dry lease.

“We will be able to restore our flights frequency and introduce new destinations for the convenience of our passengers,” he added.

As part of a programme to revive the PIA, the national flag carrier is in the process of acquiring fuel efficient aircraft on priority and has floated tenders accordingly.
