GUJRANWALA: Three people, including two students of a primary school, suffered burns when lightning struck them in rain on Pasrur Road on Tuesday.

Reports said Muhammad Javed of Golian village was going to drop his son Aqib, 7, and neighbour child Farhan, 4, to school on a motorcycle when lightning hit them near Dharam Kot.

All three of them suffered burns and they were shifted to DHQ Hospital. Their condition is stated to be serious.

PROTEST: Students of the Government Girl Primary School, Dhulley, and their parents protested against the education department over decaying old building of the school, and demanded construction of a new school building.

They said the school building was constructed before the partition. It consisted of 15 classrooms and about 900 girls were enrolled with 60 students accommodate in one classroom.

The protesters said the shortage of furniture, non-availability of potable water and bad condition of bathrooms were the other issues. Students were leaving schools for non-provision of better facilities but children of the poor had no option but to study there, they said.

The school administration said the MPA concerned had visited the school several times and promised to construct the new building but in vain.

It said the complaints had been registered with the departments concerned time and again but it gave no response.
