KARACHI: All three Group-I matches of the Silver League segment in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship yielded outright results as PIA, Hyderabad Hawks and KRL registered victories on Wednesday.

PIA defeated Karachi Zebras by exactly 100 runs in their opening-round clash here at the NBP Sports Complex. The Zebras lost their remaining four wickets on the fourth and final day for the addition of just 51 runs. Skipper Owais Ahmed Rehmani was out early after adding only seven more runs to his overnight score of 59.

Pakistan Television (PTV) almost pulled of a miraculous win against the Hawks at the Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad as they lost by only 40 runs after amassing a creditable 439 all out in their second innings.

PTV’s star performer was Rehan Afridi who hammered an undefeated career-best 157 after PTV had resumed at 170-4. The 22-year-old right-hander from Khyber Agency struck 19 fours and one six during his 272-ball knock in 356 minutes.

Rehan dominated the seventh wicket partnership of 126 with Usman Ashraf (37). Nawaz Ahmed also batted well to hit up 92 (186 balls, 10 boundaries).

KRL sealed a five-wicket victory by making 234-5 against Lahore Eagles at the LCCA Ground in Lahore with Imam-ul-Haq, the nephew of former Pakistan captain and batting legend Inzamam-ul-Haq, striking an unbeaten 78.

In the three drawn Group-II fixtures, Habib Bank, State Bank and SSGC claimed three points for taking lead on the first innings over Sialkot Stallions, Faisalabad Wolves and Bahawalpur Stags, respectively.

The second round of matches starts from Saturday.

At LCCA Ground, Lahore: KRL beat Lahore Eagles by five wickets.
