PESHAWAR: At least two security personnel were killed and two others were injured on Saturday in a roadside blast in Salarzai Tehsil of Bajaur Agency.

Official sources said security forces were carrying water supply for the troops in Salarzai when they were hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast resulting in the death of two Dir Scouts personnel and leaving two others injured.

A security reinforcement immediately reached the spot and a search operation was launched in the area.

Earlier on Aug 13, a pro-government tribal elder and leader of the Salarzai Peace Committee was also attacked in a roadside blast in Bajaur's Golo Shah area. He, however, had remained unhurt in the incident.

Bajaur, a tribal region in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), is governed by tribal laws.

An extremist insurgency led by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with militants, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed extremist organisations.

In a separate incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Hangu district, a security man was injured in a blast near Shaidano Dhand checkpost.
