KARACHI: An angry mob lynched a suspected robber in the Napier area on Monday, police said.

They added that two suspects on a motorbike were robbing passers-by near Abdul Khaliq Juma Hall on Faqir Mohammed Dara Khan Road when their victims raised alarm.

Area people rushed to the place and overpowered one of the suspects. They gave him a severe beating before the arrival of police.

The suspect suffered serious injuries and was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors declared him dead.

The dead man was identified as Kamran, 30, a resident of Bihar Colony, Lyari.

The police claimed to have found a pistol and a motorbike.

ANP worker shot dead

A worker of the Awami National Party was shot dead and two others were wounded when they were attacked while hoisting ANP flags in Mominabad on Monday evening, according to police.

Three ANP workers were busy hoisting flags in Mujahid Colony, Sector-4-F, Orangi, when unknown assailants opened fire on them and fled, said Mominabad SHO Shahzad Ilyas.

The wounded men were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Shahid Habib died during treatment, said a hospital official. Two others, Nek Mohammed and Majid, were admitted for treatment. Their condition was stated to be out of danger.

Killing in Manghopir

A young man was shot dead in Manghopir on Monday evening, police said.

They added that the man was riding a motorcycle when gunmen targeted him in Kunwari Colony.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The incident occurred near a petrol station but its staff was not cooperating with the police, they added.

Youth shot dead in mysterious condition

A 22-year-old man was shot dead in North Karachi on Monday evening under mysterious circumstances, the Bilal Colony police said. They added that the man, identified as Bilal, was gunned down in Sector 5-C-2.

Quoting witnesses, Bilal Colony SHO Shaukat Awan said two men tried to mug the occupant of a car who fired at them and sped away. As a result, one of the suspects sustained two bullet wounds in the chest and face and died.

He added that the police were probing the incident.

‘Gangster’ found shot dead

A suspected gangster was found shot dead in Lyari’s Baghdadi area on Monday, police said.

They added that the bullet-riddled body of Umair Dad was found on D.D. Chaudhry Road near the Gadani bus terminus.

The man was a resident of Street-8 in Shah Beg Lane. “He was a close aide to Sohail, alias Sunny, of the Comrade Sheeraz gang,” said Baghdadi SHO Abdul Moid.

He claimed that the dead man was involved in cases of murder and extortion. He said it appeared that his killing was related to the ongoing gang warfare in the area.
