KARACHI: Police arrested a key suspect allegedly involved in the Edhi Centre robbery from Karachi’s Korangi area on Saturday.
South Zone’s Special Investigation Department carried out raids in Korangi and arrested Mazhar.
According to sources, the suspect was involved in several armed robberies for the past 15 years and has also been jailed on several occasions.
Meanwhile, investigation is under way to apprehend other individuals involved in the robbery with the support of the arrested suspect.
On receiving a tip-off, police conducted a door-to-door operation within the remit of Katti Patahari and took several suspects into custody. Residents of the area expressed fury over the raids.
Upon receiving classified information, Rangers personnel carried out an operation in Chakiwara and Tughlaq Lane during which three Lyari gang members were killed in an encounter.
Police and Rangers personnel also carried out an operation in the city’s Manghopir and Qasba Colony areas during which over two dozen suspects were detained.

Every bank branch has CCTV installed. It does not prevent bank raids.
Theft and looting is only one side of the coin. The other side is that it enjoys the blessings of powerful people who can easily subvert all deterrence and justice systems.
Our society is too weak both morally and technically to deal with these people though we all know who they are.

Most of the criminals are hiding in these illegal settlements in Karachi, which also serve as a vote bank of various political parties. These criminals are the source of fund raising for political parties and "pious" jihadi groups.

@Aziz - With CCTV installed, there is better chance of getting caught if there is a will to do so. Most of the times police know the culprits, so cameras do help, its the implementation of the law that's the biggest problem. In the West, other than opportunistic thefts, robberies have become non-existent because of cameras everywhere.

How funny each time when our so called government warns the police to produce the culprit involved in high profile , the suspect is apprehended right way. Most of the time the case is not even registered. Besides the police are reluctant to cut the FIR.

@Mudassar Siddiq ... When I was robbed about years a go. My case was not registered. When I used my connections everything was regained. All my passports credits cards my bank cards. But no cash n the jewelry.

Recovery of the looted mall is more imortant than arresting the key suspect. These people are so corrupt could not even spare charity organiztion. Shame on these thiefs; they should be tried on Shrai court and should be given exemplry punishment. Again first recover the looted mall. Shame on Sindh police alsoo.

@Parvez here is where you are responsible for this mess. In democracy people, that is you, are the law makers. The penal laws of Pakistan are very lax when the accused is repeat offender. So he was imprisoned, served his time, then was released.

@Lucky Star wrong. Arrest is more important. Also in any court you have to prove that the accused is guilty, then you can punish them. That's called justice (insaf). Anything else is vengeance, which is strictly forbidden. In fact Hz Umer (rz) said "let a thousand criminals go free but not one innocent should be punished." That's justice.

A suggestion on his punishment, if proven guilty. Let him beg forgiveness from Edhi. If Edhi forgives him, and approves, the Judge may take time off his sentence to allow him to work inside Edhi's charities. Maybe the enlightenment he gets from this will help him to recognize what he was about to harm will help the criminal become a good citizen.

I wonder,if te loot from his center was one day collection? If so, how does he keep the inventory logged? Does anyone knows or seen his tax filing ? I would love to know, his tax status? Before this angel is nominated for an international award!
