KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Tuesday accepted resignations of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ministers from the provincial cabinet.
Dr Ishrat also signed the Sindh Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2014, days after the Sindh Assembly had approved it on Oct 20, giving the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) the authority to carry out delimitation of constituencies in the province.
The acceptance of resignations comes after the MQM parted ways with the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government in Sindh, in response to alleged statements made against party chief Altaf Hussain and Muhajirs by the PPP leadership.

On Oct 26, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had accepted resignations of four advisers belonging to MQM.
Earlier this month, the PPP had landed in a controversy with the MQM when Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah remarked that 'the use of word Muhajir was an insult'.
The controversial statement was not taken lightly by the MQM, which called Oct 17 the “most unfortunate day in the history of Pakistan” given that the senior PPP leader termed 'Muhajir' an objectionable word at least four times.
MQM had hoisted black flags at all party offices across the country and observed a 'black day' in protest against the statement by Shah, who had later apologised and retracted his words after facing criticism.

@Omar Sir its not the resignation from Assembly , its resignation from ministries, so first it has to be accepted by CM , then it goes to Governor for final acceptance. If it was from Assemblies then it goes to Speaker and then he accepts it .

The Speaker is only authorized to accept the resignation from the provincial assembly (legislative branch of the government), and has no jurisdiction over the ministers. The govern accepts the resignation of the ministers, as he/she is the head of the administrative part of the government. All this is due to the parliamentary form of the government system.

No Pakistani media dares to speak the truth that other day transmission was shut down for 6 hours, MQM was the one who forcibly asked cable operators to stop the transmission, you guys can check online by BBC Urdu.

@Ahmed Please educate yourself and not spew hate, the Governor is appointed by the Federal government with the approval of Provincial government, the governor had previously resigned twice and so he went to Dubai. However the present rulers PPP and PMLN begged the governor to stay as he is a moderate state symbol and does not have any power.

@zaq Please explore and research before commenting, the Governor is the Federal Government appointee after the ministers and MNAs hand in their resignation to the Provincial government the next step is to lodge a complaint together with handing in the resignation to the Governor as a protocol.

@Omar, No, ministers hold appointed positions. They are selected by the chief minister and sworn in by the governor. The members of the assembly tender their resignations to the speaker.

What about his own resignation? They say there is two term limit, but this fellow has been Governor for about 12 years? Crimes rates still high, millions of poor children in province of Sindh out of school, millions cannot afford medical treatment, millions of young people unemployed. What this fellow has done for Sindh to stay as Governor and keep drawing big salary & perks, all paid for by poor tax payers?

Backing off from their statement, in government not in government, Altaf Bhai resigning and then not resigning, dissolution of Rabata Committee reinstatement of Rabata Committee, MQM’s governor accepting resignation of MQM’s nominated ministers, do not want to be part of set up in center and province but want the chair of governor.
MQM is becoming synonymous to contradictions

@Omar Yes, the Governor must accept Ministers resignations, the Assembly Speaker accepts resignations from MPAs who are not Ministers in Cabinet, under the Constitution of Pakistan.
