GILGIT, Sept 6: A woman and a man were gunned down in district Ghizer on Friday, official sources said.

According to sources, Malkhoon and her former husband Sher Azam, resident of Rowsheen, were shot dead by the brother of the woman, Punin Khan, near the local court at Gahkuch, the district headquarters in Ghizer, some 120km from Gilgit.

Sources said that Sher Azam had divorced Malkhoon three days ago and both were going to the court in connection with the divorce issue when Punin Khan opened fire at them with an automatic weapon and then surrendered to the police.

They said Punin Khan stated before the police that the divorced couple had a daughter, who was allegedly murdered by his brother-in-law.

A case has been registered against Punin Khan.
