CHITRAL: Jamaat-i-Islami Chitral district chief Maghfirat Shah has said that a large number of JI workers from the district will participate in the party congregation at Minar-i-Pakistan, Lahore, this month.

Speaking at a party convention here on Sunday, he said that the country was passing through a crucial phase of its history and that the negative forces were at work to weaken its foundation, but the workers of his party would abort any such attempts.

He claimed that the JI congregation will change the very course of politics in the country. He said that during his visit to various valleys he found that the people were ready to respond positively to the call of his party to make Pakistan an Islamic country.

He said JI workers in Torkhow, Mulkhow, Mastuj and Koh union council have agreed to participate in Lahore meeting of the party.

Earlier, the gathering was addressed by former district amir Maulana Sher Aziz and other leaders.

On this occasion, they demanded of the government to keep the Lowari Tunnel open for eight hours a day after the closure of the Lowari Pass in the coming winter season.

They also called for timely completion of the Golen Gol hydropower project.

The gathering, through a resolution, condemned the death penalty handed down to JI emir of Bangladesh, Motiur Rahman Nizami.
