SWABI: A man and his wife died when roof of their room collapsed in Islam Banda, Chota Lahor tehsil, late on Tuesday night. However, their six-year-old daughter was found alive when their other family members came to know about the incident on Wednesday morning, police said.

The deceased were identified as Riazul Haq and his wife. Local people said that the main pillar of Mr Haq’s room had broken under the heavy load of mud-built roof. They said that other family members sleeping in the side rooms came to know about the incident in the morning.

“When one of Mr Haq’s sisters woke up in the morning she noticed that the roof of his room has collapsed. She started crying after which the neighbours reached and dug out the bodies of Mr Haq and his wife from the debris,” Waqar Khan, one of their neighbours, told this correspondent.

Minor daughter survives unhurt

He said that it was a big surprise for them when they saw that their minor daughter had survived in the incident.

Meanwhile, a man allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous pills here on Wednesday.

Police said that the man had swallowed the pills at his residence at Indus River site. He was taken to the district headquarters hospital where doctors referred him to Peshawar, but he did not survive.

The name of the victim could not be ascertained.

RIVALRY SETTLED: The differences between the officials of the district administration and KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar’s brother were settled here by a jirga.

The two sides had developed differences over the release of three butchers a week ago.

Qaisar’s brother Adnan Khan and additional assistance commissioner Khaliqdad Khan embraced each other in the presence of the jirga members and officials of the administration. They forgave each other and now the FIR lodged against Mr Adnan in the city police station would be withdrawn soon.
