Bank assets up

According to latest central bank data, total assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs10,400.076bn in the week ending October 24, up 0.31 per cent over the preceding week’s level of Rs10,368.022bn.

This compares with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs9,172.005bn. Meanwhile, total assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs10,218.242bn in the week, up 0.3 per cent over the prior week’s figure of Rs10,187.18bn. Total assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs181.834bn in the week, against the previous week’s Rs180.842bn.

According to the weekly statement of position of all scheduled banks for the week ending October 24, cash and balances with treasury banks of all scheduled banks decreased 9.66 per cent to Rs666.603bn, against the earlier week’s figure of Rs737.924bn. The current week’s figure is higher by 3.46 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs644.321bn.

Cash and balances with treasury banks of all commercial banks stood at Rs663.241bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs733.289bn, a decline of 9.55 per cent. Cash and balances with treasury banks of all specialised banks stood at Rs3.362bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs4.635bn.

Investments of all scheduled banks stood at Rs4,424.502bn in the week under review, up 1.34 per cent from the preceding week’s figure of Rs4,366.124bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs3,776.08bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 17.2 per cent.

Investments of all commercial banks stood at Rs4,391.551bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs4334.128bn, up 1.32 per cent. Investments of all specialised banks stood at Rs32.951bn in the week, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs31.996bn.

Gross advances by scheduled banks stood at Rs4,312.59bn in the week ending October 24, up 0.15 per cent over the preceding week’s figure of Rs4,306.053bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs3,920.554bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 10 per cent.

Advances by commercial banks rose 0.14 per cent to Rs4,177.401bn in the week, against the earlier week’s figure of Rs4,171.699bn. Advances by specialised banks stood at Rs135.189bn in the week.

Borrowings by all scheduled banks fell by 1.36 per cent to Rs750.339bn in the week under review, against the prior week’s figure of Rs760.661bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs504.072bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 48.85 per cent.

Borrowings by all commercial banks declined by 1.43 per cent to Rs672.868bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs682.664bn. Borrowings by specialised banks stood at Rs77.47bn in the week, against preceding week’s Rs77.997bn.

Deposits and other accounts of all scheduled banks rose to Rs8,019.956bn in the week ending October 24, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs8,017.749bn. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs7,132.792bn, the current week’s figure is higher by 12.43 per cent.

Deposits and other accounts of all commercial banks rose to Rs7,994.286bn in the week, against the preceding week’s Rs7,993.399bn. Deposits and other accounts of all specialised banks stood at Rs25.67bn in the week, against the previous week’s figure of Rs24.35bn.

Other liabilities of all scheduled banks stood at Rs387.753bn in the week under review, against the prior week’s Rs379.734bn, showing a rise of 2.11 per cent. When compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs444.205bn, the current week’s figure is down 12.7 per cent.

Other liabilities of all commercial banks increased to Rs334.297bn in the week, over the previous week’s figure of Rs326.146bn. The current week’s figure is lower by 15.44 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs395.362bn.

Net assets of all scheduled banks stood at Rs1,037.59bn in the week ending October 24, against the preceding week’s figure of Rs1,021.523bn. The current week’s figure is higher by 11.63 per cent when compared with last year’s corresponding figure of Rs929.496bn.

Net assets of all commercial banks stood at Rs1,016.526bn in the week, up 1.58 per cent over the preceding week’s figure of Rs1,000.695bn. Net assets of all specialised banks stood at Rs21.064bn in the week, against the previous week’s Rs20.828bn.
