LAHORE: The whereabouts of Hussain Khar, son of former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar, were traced on Wednesday after Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf revealed that he is in the custody of CIA Lahore.

The senior police official told Dawn that Mr Hussain is in the custody of CIA Lahore after he was picked up over suspicions of involvement in a robbery incident.

Media outlets had earlier reported that Mr Hussain had been kidnapped from near his residence.

Former governor Punjab, Ghulam Mustafa Khar said that if there was any case against Hussain Khar then family members should have been informed about it and added that his son should face punishment if he was found guilty.

He further said that the police had not informed the family formally about the recovery of his son.

Talking to Dawn earlier the Deputy IGP had said that Mr Hussain was near his Askari V residence in Naseerabad police limits when some people in a police vehicle approached him moments on Tuesday night and kidnapped him at gunpoint.

He had further said police teams had launched a search for Mr Hussain after being informed by Mr Mustafa Khar and begun checking vehicles at the city’s exit points.

In the past, the Khar family has claimed being targeted over political rivalries and vendetta. Another son of the former governor has been in legal trouble, including a case relating to murder in a land dispute, throwing acid and poll rigging.
