Fauji Foundation hospital on Taliban’s hit list

RAWALPINDI: The National Counterterrorism Authority (Nacta) has informed the Punjab home department and Regional Police Officer, Rawalpindi that Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) might target Fauji Foundation Hospital on Jhelum Road.

It has received intelligence that some miscreants in the garb of female patients would shift arms, ammunition and explosive to the hospital, police said.

In the meantime, the hospital administration has also received an anonymous letter in which it was threatened that the Taliban would hit the hospital.

The one page letter written in Urdu was received by the hospital management through ordinary mail some two weeks ago.

When the Regional Police Officer Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka was contacted, he confirmed that a threatening letter had been received by the Fauji Foundation Hospital.

“After receiving the information we sent a senior police officer to the hospital to review the security arrangements,” the RPO told Dawn.

The RPO said apparently the letter might have been written by some of the patients or their attendants who were not satisfied with the treatment the hospital was providing to them.

However, police can’t take it lightly and are taking all precautionary measures, he said.

He said police were patrolling the area around the hospital while its management had been asked to ensure implementation of standard operating procedure (SOP) regarding security inside the hospital premises.

In line with the Nacta’s intelligence regarding the terror threat to the hospital, the home department has directed the RPO to take special security measures for the hospital.
