KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the works and services department to take up the issue of the worn-out portion of the National Highway bypass near Therhi, Khairpur, with the National Highway Authority to get it repaired because road accidents have become frequent day there.

The chief minister issued this directive while pointing out that the portion of the bypass was dilapidated and heavy traffic had developed craters where vehicles flipped often.

Only in November, four road accidents had taken place there, claiming about 60 lives and injuring scores of people, he added and stressed the need to carry out repair work of the National Highway to prevent such accidents.

Mr Shah has also taken serious note of a multi-party conference organised by the Sukkur Small Traders Association and directed the local government department to report him why the sewerage system had failed in Sukkur.

The chief minister asked the secretary of the LG department to present a detailed report about civic conditions in Sukkur. Why gutters were overflowing onto the streets, he asked.

He has also directed him to give him a report of the damaged roads of Sukkur city and why they have not been repaired.
