LANDI KOTAL: Three activists of the proscribed Lashkar-i-Islam (LI) organisation were killed and two others injured in clashes with members of a pro-government peace group in a remote area of Tirah valley on Sunday.

Sources said that fighting erupted after Tauheedul Islam (TI), the peace group, attacked an LI bunker in Nari Bara. The gunbattle left three LI men dead and another two injured, but they managed to push back the TI volunteers.

Meanwhile, security forces in collaboration with some renegades of the LI conducted a house-to-house search in an area. Sources said policewomen and Khyber Levies assisted troops during the search operation. They said a number of vehicles and motorcycles allegedly snatched by the LI men were seized by troops.

Security forces also demolished houses of some LI activists who had fled the area after the start of Operation Khyber One.

In Jamrud, the Khasadar force seized 47 kilograms of charas and two kilograms of heroin on a pick-up during checking of vehicles at a checkpost.
