PPP denies Swiss jewellery belonged to Benazir or Zardari

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Monday said that a Swiss tribunal held jewellery set, seized in connection with investigations into the SGS case, does not belong to the legal heirs of the late Benazir Bhutto or former president Asif Ali Zardari.
“The piece of jewellery never belonged to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Therefore there is no question that it belongs to her legal heirs or to Mr Asif Zardari. Let there be no doubt or mistake about it,” said PPP spokesman Senator Farhatullah Babar in a statement.
Babar said any assertion that the jewellery belonged to the legal heirs of Benazir Bhutto is wrong and incorrect.
He said that although he had not seen the latest ruling of the Swiss tribunal, but on the basis of his association with the case from its inception, he could make this assertion confidently.

A Swiss federal tribunal had ruled that a valuable jewellery set that was seized by authorities in connection with investigations into allegations of graft belonged to former president Asif Ali Zardari or the legal heirs of the late Benazir Bhutto.
The set, which includes a necklace, a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a ring, is said to be valued at over $180,000. In the judgment issued on Oct 29, a copy of which is available with Dawn, the tribunal rejected ownership claims filed by Bomer Finance for the jewellery.

The company was allegedly formed by Mr Jens Schlegelmilch and linked to Asif Zardari and was at the centre of the SGS-Cotecna investigation.

So who gets the jewelry? If it doesn't belong either to Bomer or to BB's heirs, does the Swiss government get to keep it forever? Or does it go to Pakistan's taxpayers, whose money may have been used to buy it? Wouldn't it be a good idea to auction off the jewelry and feed the hungry and dying people of Thar for a few days?

Legally it belongs to Benazirs heirs. ( unless government of Pakistan files an appeal )
The question is not about the jewelry --- question is , where the money came from to buy the jewelry ? Who paid the check to the jewelers ?

Mr Farhatullah Babar, then how Swiss court could award a judgement in favour of government if didn't belong to a Pakistani national? Certainly, government of Pakistan is not in jewelry business! Wonder how long you people will fool the public? Mr Zardari does get caught but he's master illusionist and so is the case here in question! Wonder how long Swiss affair will continue granted him being the only living party to the case! And Mr Fartullah Babar, the the million rupee question is, "how this $180,000 jewelry landed in Switzerland in the first place? The correct answer wins all plus the orphan jewelry!!!

they have always denied and they will always deny but it is a decision by Swiss authorities and not by a Pakistani court, so any biased is ruled out. The people of Pakistan should again reflect where there votes are going.

Mr Farhatullah Babar, could you please answer this simple question as to how did this jewelry ended up in Switzerland since not being in the jewelry business, why government of Pakistan ended up getting this judgement if it wasn't belonging to Mr Zardari, the only living party to the Swiss Case? Babar was a 'Presidential spokesman' while AAZ was President but is he his 'personal' spokesman as well ? Matter does not end here because of Babar's denial. Of late, we have read in the press that the set is BB's property. For AAZ, that amount is peanuts, even if he forgoes the ownership.But the truth must come forward.

I hope a day will come when a Pakistani government will declare all Swiss and Dubai bank accounts of Pakistani residents illegal, ask the Swiss to freeze these accounts pending clearance by investigation and to give specifics of previous accounts. Most specially the accounts, if there are any, of political figures, public office holders, judiciary and brass followed by tax evading industrialists, businessmen, landlords and professionals.
This would be transparent justice. We all "know" who the guilty people are, they now need to be transparently exposed as an example to those who would follow in their foot steps.
I hope this day will be today.
