NAWABSHAH, Sept 10: At least a 100 sacked teachers, including women, held a protest demonstration here on Wednesday against their sacking and demanded they be reinstated.
Carrying banners and placards, they started marching from the Urdu School. Passing through the main roads, they finally stopped in front of the press club where they observed token hunger strike.
They were led by Shiraz Ahmed Khan, chairman of the action committee.
Speaking on the occasion, their leaders said that about 268 teachers were appointed by the Sindh government in 1998 on the orders of the then education minister, Advocate Qazi Khalid, but were sacked after two months.
They said that the provincial government had recently reinstated 209 ASIs who were sacked about seven years back, and added that however the sacked teachers were not being reinstated as such their families were suffering.
Later, they were joined by the acting zonal organizer, MQM, Abdul Majeed; the special assistant to Sindh chief minister, Ghulam Haider Rahu, and Taluka Nazim Ali Akbar Jamali.
Four protesters — Rao Tahir Ali, Saeed Chacha, Abdul Qayoom and Rao Shoaib — fell unconscious due to the scorching heat and were provided first aid at the camp.
The sacked teachers have demanded the provincial government to reinstate them.
