KOHAT: An important member of a gang involved in the armed robbery at the Edhi centre in Karachi was arrested from a hideout here, a senior police official confided to Dawn on Saturday.

The official said that the raid at the hideout of the alleged robber was carried out secretly by a team of Karachi police in the jurisdiction of Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police station, Kohat.

The gang member named, Gulshan, was arrested and shifted to an unknown place for interrogation.

However, an official of the Mohammad Riaz Shaheed police Station said on condition of anonymity that the Karachi police might have withheld the real name of the arrested person because raids were also being conducted in other cities to arrest the remaining culprits.

ROBBERS’ GANG BUSTED: The police busted a gang of robbers in a raid at a house in Lachi tehsil on Saturday, and recovered the looted items.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted raid at a house in Muslim Abad area and arrested four members of the gang, including its ringleader.

The alleged culprits were identified as Jahangir, Sajjad Khan, Sanaullah, and Zubair.

The seizure included a motorcycle, a Kalashnikov, two shotguns, hundreds of cartridges and other items.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had been active in the area for last several months and had deprived people of their belongings on gunpoint.

The Lachi police registered case against the arrested persons and launched investigations.

The outlaws would be presented in a court of law on Monday.
