ISLAMABAD, Sept 10: Sandeep Kumar and Dashka Mu-lay will lead the biggest con-tingent from India to the World Junior Ranking tennis tournaments here later this month.
Sandeep is the top seed amongst the 10 boys entries while Dashka Mulay is no.1 amongst the six girls who will represent India in the twin tournaments to be played at Islamabad Club clay courts.
The first leg will be played from Sept 29-Oct 5 and the second from Oct 6-12.
The 10 Indians sending entries to the boys events are: Sandeep Kumar, Lalit Mann, Rupash Roy, Sumit Prakash Gupta, Vivek Shokeen, Kaushik Das, Jitin Bishnoi, Jitendra Mehlda, Gursher Singh Harika, Izreek Singh Randhawa.
Girls: Dashka Mulay, Shwetha Kakhandki, Poojashree Venkatesh, Pooja Paul, Alipt Sandhu.
Officials: Birbal Wadhera, Sangram Bannerjee, Waseem Jahan.
The Chief Referee for the back-to-back tournaments, Muhammad Arif Qureshi, who is also also the Treasurer of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) disclosed that Thailand has sent entries for two players, both girls, while Sri Lanka plans to send three boys and two girls for the championship will carry international ranking points.
“Sept 12 is the deadline for sending entries, after which no entry will be accepted as this is an international ranking competition”, he said.
Qureshi said that 20 players will be taken directly into the main draw, on the basis of their international rankings, there will be four wild-cards while eight players will come from the qualifying round for each leg”. —APP
