Website review: Climate kids

Published December 6, 2014

DECEMBER has started and the weather is pleasant, but not as cold as it should be at this time of the year. A couple of decades back these months use to be very cold but with global warming and deforestation, seasons are not as they used to be. Keeping our beloved planet in mind, it’s time that you should get involved and take measures in protecting the environment; so let’s explore Climate Kids, a Nasa’s climate change website for kids.

With all blues and green shades, the website gives a close-to-nature look. There is a lot of information, activities, multimedia, DIY projects, questions and answers, etc., related to climate change and how we can save our environment. The website is eye-catching with a left pane that includes categories like Weather & Climate, Air, Ocean, Fresh Water, Carbon’s Travels, Energy, Plants and Animals, and Technology, while in the top centre you can go through Play games, Make stuff, Know your world, News, Videos, Career and so much more that I really don’t want to go in to the details and spoil your interest.

The hands-on activities on the website are very easy and include re-purposing old clothing to make re-usable shopping bags, creating your own paper and garden projects. But before you jump into the games or hands-on activities featured here, there is big question wheel where you can read about the basic concepts and issues related to climate change and discover loads of information. The questions are addressed with a mix of image, text and video explanations.

In short, the website is all about learning how to protect the climate of our mother planet in a playfully interesting way.

So kids roll up your sleeves and learn how to protect Earth’s climate at http://climatekids.nasa.gov/
