ISLAMABAD: China has assured that it is ready to work with Pakistan to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, steadily promote the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and continuously enhance the Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
"The assurance was given by Chinese State Councillor Guo Shengkun during his meetings with President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and other leaders," Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.
During the three-day visit, State Councillor Guo Shengkun called on Pakistani leadership and conveyed cordial greetings and good wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang to their respective counterparts.
Describing the Pakistan-China friendship as deeply rooted and unbreakable, Guo said China has always attached the highest importance to its relationship with Pakistan.
Pakistan's leadership stressed that relations with China remained the cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy.
Both sides agree that development of bilateral relations between two countries is vital for regional security and stability..
Pakistan and China would work together to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism, combating drug trafficking, border management and law enforcement.
Both sides also agreed to accelerate progress on the CPEC and other ongoing economic projects.
"During his visit, State Councillor Guo Shengkun held detailed talks with the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif," the FO statement said.
Pakistani military leadership briefed him about operations being carried out against terrorists in tribal areas.
