GUJRAT: Local police have planned to establish a gender policing centre for vulnerable parts of society, while the Citizen-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has also been formed to promote community policing.
Police announced launching the ‘Safe Gujrat’ project for the local trade and industry.
District Police Officer (DPO) Rai Ijaz Ahmad on Tuesday announced establishing a gender policing centre for the first time in Gujrat while speaking to a gathering of representatives of trade and industry, legal fraternity, doctors, educationists, expatriates, journalists and civil society organisations at the police lines.
He said vulnerable members of society, especially women, senior citizens and children, never felt safe in the current environment of police stations and there was a big need to set up a separate station for such segments. The gender policing centre would cater to their requirements, he added.
He said the CPLC would be run by a 12-member executive committee comprising representatives of civil society organisations at the district level whereas three separate committees would be formed in as many tehsils of the district.
