SHEIKHUPURA: A team of police and a veterinary officer on Sunday arrested three butchers for supplying donkey meat to some places in Lahore and other cities.

Led by information, a team raided a place at Chattha Colony and arrested butcher Riaz and seized huge quantity of donkey meat and two alive donkeys. It also arrested two other butchers, Ahmad and Rafi, at another place while another two, Nazir and Usman, escaped.

The butchers told the police that they had been slaughtering donkeys and transporting these to Lahore and other cities for the last several years.

Six butchers had previously been arrested for selling donkey meat. The news alarmed people who have demanded that the higher authorities crack down on the menace.
