KARACHI: The burnt body of a teenager, who was stabbed to death, was found on the Karachi University premises on Sunday, the Mobina Town police said.

The body of 19-year-old Wasim Masih was found in bushes in the KU.

He was stabbed to death and later his body was set on fire with dried bushes, said Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani. He said the body was severely burnt.

The police have registered an FIR (381/2014) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of father of the victim Ishaq Masih, who has nominated two suspects in the case.

One of the suspects identified as Shoaib Wilson was arrested, the Gulshan SP added.

Both the victim and the suspect were residents of Ayub Goth adjacent to Karachi University.

The police said that the deceased had been pursuing a sister of the suspect and his family had also approached their family for her hand in marriage, but they were refused.

This could be the possible motive for the murder, SP Abid Qaimkhani added.

Investigation officer of the Mobina Town police station Asghar Ali said the suspects brought the victim on the KU premises near Moti Bagh, where they first made him unconscious by giving him something to drink and stabbed him to death. Later on, they set his body on fire.

“Both the victim and the suspect are not KU students, nor are they children of the KU staff,” said KU registrar Dr Moazzam Ali.

He added that the KU security men had spotted the body and informed the police and Rangers about it.

“It is a very serious security breach in the KU,” said a senior faculty member, who wished not to be named.

He recalled that one and a half years ago a five-year-old girl was also found dead in the same area, but the KU administration did not take the security breach with required seriousness.

The KU professor said the area where the burnt body of the teenager was found linked the varsity with the PCSIR laboratory, but this thoroughfare remained closed for past 15 years.

“The victim and the suspects stayed there and drank wine and later the murder took place,” the KU professor claimed.
