Rumours about Cameron Diaz dating American rock band Good Charlotte's lead vocalist Benji Madden surfaced in May this year and it appears that after dating for seven months, the duo is ready to take the leap and make it official, reported Us Weekly.

"Everyone thinks it's wild, but are so happy for them," a source told Us Weekly. "Benji always tends to fall in love easily, but this time it's for real and he landed a great girl. They obviously both make each other incredibly happy and there's nothing better than that."

A friend of Madden also confirmed the news to People saying: "All of Benji's friends are aware and happy for him."

Madden's sister-in-law (brother's wife), Nicole Richie, admitted that she was the one who played cupid and set the two up: I'm happy for anyone who is happy, and I want everyone to be surrounded with love. Yes, I'm going to take responsibility for everything!"

Although the couple is still mum about the engagement, Diaz has been sporting some suspicious jewellery on her ring finger.

The engagement may come as a shock to anyone who has followed the 42-year-old Charlie's Angels star's comments regarding marriage.

In an interview with Marie Claire earlier this year, Diaz said: "I'm not looking for a husband or marriage or not looking for that stuff. I'm living, not thinking what I should or shouldn't be doing with my life."

We're not sure if she'll change her mind about having a big wedding, as back in 2010 she told eonline.com: "The mystique and the romance of a big wedding are lost on me. I don't think that I could ever do something that extravagant. I am not much of a planner. I would probably make the phone call 20 minutes before the bus leaves for the chapel and ask if anyone is available to come. That's probably how my wedding is going to end up."
