KASUR, Sept 13: Insanitary conditions in the district have exposed the patchy performance of the tehsil municipal administration.
In spite of the availability of 337 sanitary workers, the municipal authorities have failed to provide proper services. The officials of the department blame traders and the general public for not cooperating with it.
The worst affected localities are Sabzi Mandi Chowk, Circular Road, Railway Road, Chandni Chowk, Chowk Adda Lalyani, Khan Mehal Chowk, Kot Maulvi Abdul Qadir, Kamal Shah Chowk, Rukanpura, Bhasarpura and Niaznagar.
A TMA officer, requesting anonymity, told Dawn that most of the sanitary workers had been engaged by the union council Nazims and councillors for private work. Whenever the TMA tried to take any action against the workers, he said, the elected representatives defended them.
Tehsil Nazim Malik Rasheed Khan, he said, had decided to hand over the administration to the private sector. People also had welcomed the idea, which, they hoped, would provide them salubrious atmosphere.
STALE MEAT: Unchecked sale of meat of sick animals is posing threat to human health in the district, according to a survey conducted by Dawn.
Scores of people have complained about the negligence of the authorities responsible to crack down on the butchers, who are not afraid of jeopardizing human health.
The butchers are also said to be overcharging for their stale products.
