PESHAWAR: Pakistan’s security forces have seized a huge quantity of arms and explosives from Safi Tehsil of Mohmand Agency on Friday, official sources said.

Military sources told Dawn.com that the security forces carried out a search operation in Lakaro area of Mohmand Agency and recovered 22 mortar shells, 66 landmines and 35 kilograms of explosives from a house.

The sources added that the security forces have also recovered rockets from the house as the search is ongoing the area.

Meanwhile, a policeman was killed and two others injured in a militant attack on a police check post in Sarki Piyala area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district. The terrorists fled away after police retaliated the attack.

Intensified air and intelligence-driven ground actions by Pakistani military have killed dozens of suspected militants in the aftermath of deadly Taliban attack on an army-run school in Peshawar that killed 150 people, mostly children.

The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also lifted the moratorium on executions after the incident. Since then, several convicted militants have been hanged.

Meanwhile, all airports are put on red alert as the military intensified operations against militants in the troubled northwestern tribal areas. The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) said the school attack by a suicide squad was revenge for the killing of militants' families in that offensive.

The military since June has been waging the assault against longstanding TTP and other militant strongholds. The army has also been deployed to guard major prisons housing militants. Officials have said there would be up to ten more executions in coming days.
