RAWALPINDI: Law enforcement agencies are still trying to trace the person who made a threatening call to the administration of a private school about a week ago.

The security agencies, including the police and the Special Branch, are working on the case. The police have also started patrolling around the school though it is closed for the winter vacation.

At around 9:45am on Wednesday, the unidentified man called the female principal of the private school located in the densely-populated People’s Colony, Racecourse, and threatened to blow up the school.

The school administration said it could not recorded the caller’s number as at that time the caller’s line identity (CLI) facility was not working. However, the police are trying to trace the culprit.

“Our main concern is that the caller has not been traced by the authorities concerned despite the lapse of several days,” Professor Manzoor Malik, the husband of the school principal, told Dawn.

He said though all the government agencies had been working on the case and trying to trace the culprit, the caller’s number could not be detected even by the telephone department.

“Apparently, the police are underestimating the threat and taking it lightly. But we are concerned and feeling insecure after receiving the threatening call,” he said. The school was scheduled to open after the winter vacation on January 1, but due to the prevailing security situation the provincial government extended the vacation till January 12.

Regional Police Office (RPO) Akhtar Umar Hayat Laleka was of the view that it could be a mischief by some youngster. However, he added, the police were taking the security of all the educational institutions seriously.

“All schools are important for us and we are taking every possible measure to provide them security,” the RPO told Dawn.

He said the police had been asking the administrations of all schools to abide by the shops and security act that made it mandatory for them to deploy private security guards on their premises.

A large number of private schools across the country were closed indefinitely after the terrorist attack on the Army Public School Peshawar on December 16.
