KARACHI: Pakistan’s squad for the World Cup will be named on Wednesday after the selectors completed consultations with head-coach Waqar Younis and captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
Waqar and Misbah had lengthy discussions with chief selector Moin Khan and co-selectors Shoaib Muhammad, Salim Yousuf, Mohammad Akram, Ijaz Ahmed and Wajahatullah Wasti to finalise the 15-member squad for the quadrennial showpiece.
“We completed the discussions with Waqar and Misbah and the team will be named on Wednesday,” Moin told reporters at the National Stadium here on Tuesday.
Waqar and Misbah had a breakfast meeting with Moin before having extensive discussions with the rest of the national selection committee members here at the National Stadium.
According to inside reports, former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal and batsman Asad Shafiq out of the running for a place in the squad.
There was difference of opinion amongst the selectors about picking Nasir Jamshed as a third opener while they also considered using wicket-keeper Sarfraz Ahmed as an opener.
Selectors were due to submit the final squad to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan for final approval after which it will be announced.
