LAHORE: Ikramul Haq alias Akram Lahori is being hanged at Kot Lakhpat Central Jail on Thursday (today).

Officials in the prisons department told Dawn that Lahori, who is nominated in many cases of sectarian killings, would be hanged at 6:30am.

The security in and around the jail, which is going to witness first execution after lifting of moratorium on the prime minister’s orders, was further tightened.

An anti-terrorism court in Faisalabad had awarded death sentence to Lahori in connection with the killings in an Imambargah (Shorkot) and issued his death warrants a couple of days ago. Lahori was also nominated in cases of 21 killings in Mominpura, Lahore, assassination of Imtiaz Haider, the brother of former federal minister Moeenuddin Haider, attack on Iranian cadets in Islamabad and murder case of Iranian diplomat Sadiq Ganji.

The family members paid a last visit to Lahori at the jail on Wednesday.
