Loved by millions, cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar is all set to play as himself in an upcoming feature film on his life, Times of India reported.
The biopic will portray the cricketer’s journey and the highs and lows through Little Master's life.
The film is reportedly being produced by a Mumbai-based production company 200 Not Out.
The company bought the rights to make the film from World Sports Group (WSG), an organisation managing Tendulkar’s brand and commercial ventures.
200 Not Out has also finalised renowned London-based writer, producer and director James Erskine to direct the biopic. Known for making films based on sport, Erskine has in the past directed a cricket film named From the Ashes.
The film on Tendulkar's life has been in the pipeline since last year and is currently being shot. It has also been said that the production company is in talks with the cricket board to get Sachin’s past footage to be embedded in the film. Different personalities from the world over are also contributing to the movie.
Speaking about the film, founder of 200 Not Out Ravi Bhagchandka said: "We decided to work with Erskine after studying his many incredible films involving sport personalities. This will be the first time that he will be working in this part of the world. We will work with the best in the business for the film to be a fitting tribute to the unparalleled achievements of Sachin Tendulkar."
The film would also focus on the master blaster’s personal life and depict aspects not known to all like his childhood, school days and marriage to Dr Anjali along with his long career encompassing almost 25 years.
Bhagchankda who is also a former club cricketer said that having played the game, he could understand the stupendous effect of Tendulkar on his die-hard fans across the globe.
“Someone had to capture these memories for the generations to come who will want to know what the Tendulkar-era was like.”
Marketing rights have also been settled and a top sport broadcasting company will be looking after it.
"It will be a worldwide release in more than 2000 theatres," Bhagchandka added.
Instead of making a documentary, the filmmakers went ahead with the feature film after the star cricketer agreed to play the role himself instead.
