ISLAMABAD: On the day of her marriage to PTI chairman Imran Khan, DawnNews anchor Reham Khan Thursday evening made her first public statement on the channel since her marriage.

Speaking via telephone on the programme 'Infocus', the broadcast journalist described what drew her to the PTI chairman.

“What I really liked about Imran when he proposed to me was the love he has for his sons," Reham Khan said.

"What impresses me the most about people, what I regard as a success is a good parent," she said.

She explained that being a parent and the responsibility that comes with it is "a very difficult thing to do."

"I was looking for a man who would be a good role model for my children," Reham said.

"Pakistani men should emulate Imran's example," she said.

PTI leader Arif Alvi, who was also on the programme, joked with her when she was discussing how she managed to marry the PTI leader.

During the interview she was asked what was the moment when she realized the Imran was ‘Mr Right’.

“I didn’t know Mr Khan was Mr Right, you wait your whole life for Mr Right and then you find Mr Most Right,” she laughingly said.

She said the public's perception of Imran and the type of person he is are two separate things.

“He is an extremely kind person, he treats people around him well, which is why people like him and are very loyal to him,” Reham said.

When asked if she will enter politics, she said that while she has been active in social work she has no interest in politics.

"The type of politics in the current environment do not appeal to me...That's not my calling in life," Reham said.

"I am interested in politics as a journalist, observer and historian," she said.

She joked that she doesn’t have anything to teach Imran Khan, saying that the PTI leader is a “very capable” individual.

Reham said she will be returning as a host of her show in DawnNews.

The couple wed today in a simple ceremony at the PTI leader’s residence in Bani Gala.

The low-key ceremony, was conducted by Mufti Saeed and was followed by a photo session of the newly-weds.

The cricketer-turned-politician was previously married to English journalist and activist Jemima Goldsmith for nine years. The marriage ended amicably in 2004.

Reham Khan was previously married to psychologist Ijaz Rehman, with whom she had three children.
