LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench on Thursday dismissed as withdrawn petition of a condemned prisoner, Ikramul Haq, alias Lahori, challenging his death warrants.

A Faisalabad anti-terrorism court (ATC) had reissued the warrants after the convict failed to prove reconciliation with the complainant party.

The convict’s counsel pleaded in the petition that the complainant party wanted to record statement in the high court.

However, he said, the trial court reissued the death warrants of the convict and execution was fixed for Jan 17.

The counsel asked the court to suspend the operation of the warrants till decision of the petition.

Lahori was awarded death sentence for killing a cleric in Shorkot.

The bench observed that the high court was not a proper forum for verification of compromise or agreement. It asked the petitioner to approach the trial court for the required relief.

children’s custody: The Lahore High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition about custody of two minor siblings and handed them over to their mother.

Seema Jabeen, the mother, told the court that she wanted to keep the children with her. Father of the children also appeared before the court.

Talking to media, Ms Jabeen said she and her husband Adnan Zafar had been reunited and would live together. However, Zafar denied any reconciliation between the couple. The minor siblings -- Amina, 5, and Umar, 6, -- had approached the court through their uncle.

The petitioner pleaded that both father and mother were not willing to keep the children with them.
