ON Jan 8-9, Al-Qalam Trust, with the cooperation of the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT), Karachi, and other philanthropists, organised a free eye camp for people of the area. More than 800 people registered at the camp where cataract operation of 269 persons were carried out.
However, during the test it was revealed that 40pc of the patients were having hepatitis, i.e. 11 patients with hepatitis B, 93 with hepatitis C and three with hepatitis B and C.
This is a very alarming situation. The authorities concerned should look into the matter, as well as create public awareness, before things go out of control.
