KARACHI: A traffic police official was shot dead near Malir Halt on Saturday, a few hours after two policemen met the same fate in Lyari.

According to officials, men on a motorbike shot 43-year-old Javed Iqbal when he was riding to his home after his duty hours.

“He was hit by a single bullet near a railway crossing close to the Malir Halt bus stop,” Traffic Police DIG Dr Amir Sheikh said. He said it appeared to be a case of targeted killing.

Earlier, two policemen were killed in an attack on a police post in Lyari, allegedly by criminal gang operating the neighbourhood.

Karachi police have so far lost 14 personnel in the first 17 days of this year — all in targeted attacks. Meanwhile, the manager of a marriage hall was shot dead in Korangi.

Police said 55-year-old Iqbal Mehdi was attacked when he was standing outside his marriage hall.
