The real news is this. The boy from backward caste eloped with the minority girl. The minority group kidnapped the guy and killed the boy. The boy's relatives took revenge. Any killing and who started it all doesn't matter. At the end of the day 4 lives gone and its sad. It is the real news though.

Secular India is falling apart. Surely Indians must have noticed the rise in religious violence since BJP has come into tenure? Pakistan has it's fair share of religious intolerance (and even more so than India) but it's funny when Indians are the ones to tell us off when this kind of stuff is happening in their own backyard.

But in pak , these kind of things are rather regular (daily basis) that too among your self!. yes , there are some issues...but mostly due to personal issues flared up by some other people with vested interests. So, dont generalize! and coming to middle class.. the fact is , muslim elites/middle class migrated to pak at the time partition and the only left behind in India are mostly poor(except few). we are seeing the benefits of economic reforms and indian muslims are also catching up like Hindu poor. Now,you can see good number of indian middle class with first generation engineers/doctors in their families. So, get the facts verified before commenting and dont generalize.

@rk I have a number of relatives who live in India as they didn't migrated in 1947 and they actually regret their decision to stay in India due to what they have to face there. I understand that clashes do happen when different communities are living together. But whenever such things happen in Pakistan it is interesting to see the reaction of Indians and now look at the Indians as they are trying to justify what happened. Yes sometimes similar things happen in Pakistan but we are accepting the problem and are trying to address the issue but unfortunately the Indian approach is to hide it from the media and let it happen as it is. So first thing get your facts right. second thing In any newspaper, there was no mentioning of religion of any parties. So Dawn came to know the religion of both parties, only Dawn can tell. There may be many issues in India. But the big dfference between India and pakistan is that no muslim wants to migrate from India to pakistan. Despite of so many riots, despite of so many internal issues, ask any muslim if he or she want to settle in pakistan. Law and order is under the control of elected state govt. Now coming to this incident, this incident happened in a state called Bihar where a party called JanataDal is running the govt which is no way related to Modi/BJP/RSS. That's happen when you are in minority and voiceless. We also need to revisit our record of minorities treatment.

We Pakistanis are more sensitive for the killings of Muslims any where on the earth but if we are killed by the Talibans at home It was the norm of the day. How we treat our minorities in this country does not matter to any one.

India is a country of 1.2 billion people. Matters like these happen from time to time but that doesn't mean modi is behind every riot or attack which starts on a personal level. If a hindu gets killed than hindus start blaming indian muslims and ISIS ...whereas if a muslim gets killed than muslims start pointing fingers at modi ...haha ....Modi has many other important things to do rather than create such violence ....

@M. Siddique, 'Bharat' is the official name of the 'Republic of India' (read their constitution). It is also the name Pakistan used to refer to the state as after independence in 1947 (read Liaquat's speeches, and others). Pakistan refused to accept that it was not a part of India and did not agree with them retaining the name (Jinnah's comments, arguments during transfer of power). According to the Two-Nation Theory which was the basis of the creation of Pakistan, all Paks ARE Indians. Bharat is only one of Mother India's children (a spoilt, arrogant one imo). After all, the name does come out of the Sindhu/Indus river which is inside Pakistan.

@shahzad i have Muslim friends from school time. Even our parents share good moments with Muslim families. We call each other at different family occasions. Also, I have visited many places in north India like Haryana, Punjab, Jaipur etc and found Muslims everywhere as an integral part of Indian society. Some political or criminal activities can lead to such violence but this is not limited to Muslims only. Caste and religious intolerance in our region is the real culprit. Atleast, young generation should not let them ruled by these hate mongers.

@amir/peshawar, Did you read the message and understood what triggered the incident. Same was the case with Post Godhra riots. Read the case in details. First 60+ Hindus were burnt in a train in Godhra and that started the riot. Why are you crying foul without doing a proper analysis. I am not in support of revenge killing though... but it happens in mobs.

This AP report of 3 days ago says 4 Muslims killed, on the same page an AFP report of 2 days says 3 Muslims killed. I guess one of them is closer to the truth. Two conflicting reports on the same page of News Channel of your repute. It certainly isn't an oversight. A question to DAWN: Is the value of life so little that one dead more or less is of no consequence? What is the intention behind using two reporting channels where the non-coincidental repoting on the same page?
