Zohair clinches tennis title

Karachi: Syed Zohair Raza recorded a convincing straight set triumph against Malik Hamza in the final to clinch men’s singles title in the 13th Westbury Open Ranking Tennis Championship here at the DA Creek Club.

Zohair found little resistance from his summit clash opponent and recorded a convincing 6-2, 6-2 triumph. Nevertheless, Mohammad Raza Sawani found tough resistance from Asad Khan before recording a 7-5, 7-6 victory in the final to claim Under-17 singles title.

On the contrary, a convincing 6-4, 6-3 win was registered by Nouman Aftab in the U- 15 singles summit clash with U-13 singles final seeing Houd Azhar thrash Rayyan Jawwad 6-2, 6-4 before Ibrahim Khan trounced Abdullah Khan 8-1 in the final of the U-11.

In a parallel development, the final in the U-9 was also decided which went in favour of Hammad Khan defeating Zain Muhammad Ali with score being 8-2.

Also, men’s doubles final saw duo of Saud Shoaib and Akbar Khan emerge victorious while pair of Zafar Hasan and Jamil Khan claimed the 55-plus title 6-2, 6-2 with Saud and Akbar pair outclassing their rivals 6-4, 7-5.
