PESHAWAR: At least two persons were killed and two others injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups over a petty dispute in Khyber Agency's Landi Kotal tehsil on Monday.

According to official sources, the crossfire between rival groups apparently started over the possession of land for 'cabin' at Village Sheikhwal.

The firing killed two tribesmen who belonged to the Afridi tribe on the spot while two others were critically injured.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in critical condition.

The identity of the victims involved in the clash could not be immediately ascertained.

Political tehsildar of Landi Kotal visited the site along with personnel of the Khasadar force and started an investigation into the clash.

Khyber Agency is included in Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous regions governed by tribal laws and lies near the Afghan border. The Taliban and other Al Qaeda-linked groups who stage attacks in both Pakistan and Afghanistan are also known to have strongholds in the zone.

Pakistani security forces have also been carrying out ground offensives in Khyber Agency, particularly the Tirah Valley of Bara which borders Nazyan.

A military operation titled 'Khyber One' which was launched in October by security forces and aimed at targeting militants in Khyber Agency’s Bara area is also under way in the northwestern tribal region.
