SWABI: Unidentified assailants shot dead a businessman while he was going home from his business place here on Tuesday, said the police.

The deceased, Syed Amjid Ali Shah, dealt in ready-made garment business in the famous Link Road Market. Police said that unknown gunmen targeted the trader when he reached Palodand village. He was shot in the head and died on the spot.

A police official said that it was not a robbery attempt going wrong, as the assailants didn’t take away Rs90,000 and a pistol the trader was carrying with him at the time of shooting.

Syed Qabal Shah, uncle of the deceased, registered an FIR in the city police station against unidentified attackers.

“We would reach the assailants very soon as investigation is underway,” said another police official.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old blood feud between two families of Daulat Khuro and Dobian has been resolved by members of the dispute resolution council (DRC) headed by the district police officer, Sajjad Khan.

The DRC members comprising Mukhtiar Ahmad, Sabaz Ali Khan and Manfat Khan met the elders of the two rival families for a number of times and finally succeeded to make them to forgive each other. Recently, a clash between the two groups left one person dead and three injured.

The rival families took oath on Quran that they would no longer target each other and live like brothers. The DRC members said that they had started settlement of the blood feuds under a ruling by the Supreme Court, which had banished the custom of swara.

DRC member Mukhtiar Ahmad said that they wanted to do away with the notorious swara custom forever.
