RAWALPINDI: The blood banks of Ahmed Medical Complex and Bilal Hospital were on Tuesday sealed by a team of health officials for not following a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the safe blood transfusion.

Led by the Punjab parliamentary secretary for health, Khawaja Imran Nazir, the team conducted snap visits to the blood banks of different hospitals.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Shahid Zafar Dall and Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Khalid Randhawa are members of the team.

The EDO health told Dawn that they found the blood bank of Ahmed Medical Complex locked and its staff disappeared.

During the visit to the blood bank of the district headquarters hospital, Khawaja Imran Nazir expressed annoyance over the poor hygienic conditions there.

The administration of Bilal Hospital also failed to answer the visiting team’s queries regarding tests of five fatal ailments, including HIV, hepatitis B & C.
