There is a difference between the 92 team and this team. The 92 team started well, and yes Imran motivated them, but it still had a lot of seasoned, senior players with a lot of match experience. Here the story is very different. We have a team that has some experienced players, but it looks like a hodge podge of individual players put together, who have little understanding of each others strengths. Apart from Misbah and Younis (who is perfoming miserably), who have played a lot of cricket together and Afridi, who has a lot of experience but is extremely unpredictable, The rest have nothing behind them to show what they are capable of. There lies the big difference between the two sides. Plus Imran was given full reigns to call the shots in selection, the dressing room and on the field, Here I feel Misbah's hands are a bit tied in making selection calls and maybe under pressure from a high profile team management and coach. All I would say is, though the expectations are not too high with this team, it does provide the new comers the perfect platform to shine and define the next decade for Pakistan.

Shoaib's comment reflect the national psyche. However, it draws the wrong analogy. We do not have the equals of Waseem Akram, Aaqib Javed, Mushtaq Mohammad, Rameez Raja, Javed Miandad - even if we assume Misbah can be Imran. What we have is possibly Ahmed Shehzad providing a good innings or two besides Misbah. The rest goes like this: Afridi: slogging for 11-16 runs, Younis facing 23 balls (if survived, can expect a 100), Muhammad Irfan tired after 3 overs, Sarfraz a quickfire 23 runs, Umar Akmal a well-built innings of 33 and then catch practice. Hardly the stuff of 1992. Let's hope it changes at the right time.

Give the guy a chance first you said he bats too slow then he shut his critics up by scoring the fastest test century then you are writing him off even before the World Cup has started I guess he will have to shut everyone up again

Misbah does not need to emulate anyone he is has his own way and Imran had his own. Different Teams different eras.

@Aftab excellent comment..If it's said by a Fan it's ok . But a cricketer like Shoeb it's horrible . In 1992 Shoeb was a boy I think. .. 1992 WC Miandad , Akram , Imran , was world's no 1 as a bowler or batsmen. ( in their career ). ...But now none of them is wold no1-10 ranking and won't be . Despite that, there was no Group in 1992 every team played with each other . So Imran got more matches to select best 11.. Here mesbah won't get that much matches . Mesbah is not eager at all to make experiment to make his best eleven ..How will he do like 1992 as Imran did ?

Akhtar you could not lift you own performance through out your career stop comparing Misbah with Imran... both are good / excellent and brainy... however Imran knew how to extract maximum from the players... whereas, Misbah unfortunately does not any resources like Akram under his wings..

@Sayyar Khan I agree. Its just not fair to compare 92 team with present team. Besides, remember 92 team performed terrible until qualified for Semis. Just lucky to qualify. Now, Misbah has a challenge. There is no doubt, he has a team of mix. Both young and old. At the moment, this team is 7th on ranking and 7th on betting also. Analysts see this as an advantage of "no pressure". It can help the team. Optimistic thinking, but we love fighting back throughout our cricketing history. Remember the word "unpredictable".

Please don't compare Misbah with Imran Khan. Misbah is more than Imran, in his humility, patience, leadership....after having been denied opportunities till he was in his mid thirties, this guy rose up, has saved matches on countless occasions, always a team member, courteous to other players, umpires, selectors and with zero egoism. In fact he and Younis Khan have given Pakistan more than the so called 'celebrity' players who've constantly promoted the culture of groupism and infighting so much that Pakistani team is always struggling.

Stop living in the past and comparing Misbah with imran. The current team is full of mediocre players. The coach and selectors are useless.

While Shahid Afridi participated in 30 matches - Pakistan won 12 loss 18. In those 12 wins Shahid Afridi scored 328 runs and his bowling is also a plus... Everything was sourced by cricinfo.
