LAHORE: Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Tuesday announced that he had joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), days after resigning as the Governor of Punjab.
Sarwar made the announcement at a press conference today.
"In my 40 years of political experience I have seen that united parties win elections, divided parties lose," said Sarwar, adding that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has potential because of its unity.
He further said that the party's task is not easy and that it has immense work to carry out, including changing the status quo.
"We want to create a Pakistan where there is education and where the masses can get the justice they deserve.”
He also said that the party's aim is not to grab the post of prime minister, but to bring better opportunities for the people of Pakistan.
Imran congratulates Sarwar on joining PTI
Following Sarwar's announcement to join the PTI, chairman Imran Khan congratulated him on his inclusion in the party, saying that he was not an ordinary politician.
Khan said Sarwar had done immense work for the Labour Party in the United Kingdom, adding that due to his experience he desired to play a role in strengthening the PTI.
He said he desired to build the PTI into an institution.

Earlier, in his meeting with PTI Chairman Imran Khan at his Bani Gala residence on Sunday, Sarwar was issued a formal invitation to join the party. Upon Khan's invitation, Sarwar had reportedly put forward the demand to be made the party president, a highly placed source in the PTI told Dawn.

The seat of PTI’s president was vacated by Javed Hashmi in October over his disagreement with Khan’s decision to march towards the prime minister house as part of his Azaadi March, during his protracted anti-government movement.
The source disclosed that after the Bani Gala meeting, Khan had held consultations with party officials, following which Sarwar's request to be made the party president was likely to be fulfilled.
Sarwar is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening and organising the party's overseas sector.
Other sources said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had also offered Sarwar the position of president for the party's Punjab chapter.
Prior to his resignation, Sarwar had called Obama’s visit India instead of Pakistan a diplomatic failure of the Nawaz government and had criticised its foreign policy.

Not the right way to become president of a political party. Bad for him and bad for party.
Nevertheless, he has good credentials behind him and would have added to PTIs image of he was given an advisors role to the core committee. Still I think it is good for Pakistan although I disagree with making him president right away.

This is not a front page news. National newspapers like Dawn should talk about huge national issues like water shortages, law and order, terrorism etc and not these small party issues.
Having said that Mr Sarwar should be a good fit in PTI as he genuinely cares for Pakistan but he should not be given a party position straightaway and he should work in party for a while and show his worth and contribution. At a later stage he can be appointed to a responsible position and will be a credit to the party and country as he wants to do something for his motherland. Nobody honest and sincere can stay in PMLN and PPP these days.

Two questions:
1. What exactly is the point of holding elections when you are appointing someone to a key party position without the due process. This is autocracy, something which, with all due respect to the Captain, he is use (read: likes) to.
2. Mr. Sarwar is a very dear & close friend of "Bhai", PTI will have to take a position here. As Captain is prone to take hardline positions on political issues, would he ask the incumbent president of his party to part ways with "Bhai"?

The late development answers my first question however, the second one is still unanswered.
Reportedly Khan wanted to offer Mr. Sarwar the President slot (which if true is very sad for every PTI worker as the Chairman himself doesn't believe in Democratic process), however, Mr. Sarwar refused to join a party President and instead opted to work as an ordinary worker (Hats off to Mr. Sarwar).

@Khalid, I think your thinking is flawed. Russia was instrumental in creation of Israel, China and India have recognized Israel. Your criteria is flawed. West (US) has been main financial backer of Pakistan. Some Muslim countries (Jordan, Qatar, Turkey) have also recognized Israel. Pakistan cannot be in isolation.

Its just Sarwar's imagination that he would bring revolutionary changes in PTI. All parties are formula types that safeguard to their power itself. You will see soon he will be disappointed as Javaid Hashmi could not settle himself there. It would be far better if he runs an NGO for promotion of education and health.

Well the PTI is becoming top heavy. It will be soon a party of chiefs and no indians! Why is that all when disgruntled politicians jump one ship for another they demand a top position on the board.? While one appreciates MR.Sarwar ,s choice his reasons for joining PTI ring hallow. He knew that PML(N) was a family dominated party from before. His gripe about foreign ploicy failure does not hold water. The common man in the village does not care about it. What he needs roti, kappra and makan. Now that Imran has got heavy weights on board it is time to walk the walk and force a early gen.election not by calling dharnas but by exposing the failures of the ruling regime.Destiny beckens .

UK has a much more modern and sophisticated democracy than any other country in the world. While Pakistan is still struggling with even basics of democracy. Having someone like Mr Sarwar who was trained in UK democracy , to manage a flourishing political part like PTI , has the potential for a very positive change. We all should give him a chance. After all, we have already seen the politics of the rest like Zardaris and Nawaz group and know nothing good could come from those folks.

I am amazed that no one talks about how unethical it is to change a party. This guys lived many years in London, but still his core is rotten like most of the people in Pakistan, no principals, no loyalty, just one day woke up he changed the party. It is difficult to see the advantage to either party. The British Pak ex-Pats are already committed to their respective parties and Mr Sarwar will bring few, if any, new recruits to the PTI. On the other hand ALL Pak political leaders from Altaf to Imran know only one anthem, namely, "Me, Me, Me". When and not if, Mr Sarwar disagrees with Mr Khan on an important issue he will have to leave. I hope he would make a note of an old Urdu couplet, "Itna buland zoak nahi ahle husn ka; Yeh kiya samajh k ishq ney Ansoo baha diaey".

He is an opportunist. It's a very calculated move.
There is no payback for loyalty and seniority in any of the political party. PPP and PML (N) has suffered greatly because of lack of opportunity for their workers.
PTI is heading in the same direction. Once elected only people with influence and money will be in powerful positions.

I'll join if you make me president of your party!! Well, it seems that PTI don't believ in democracy within the party. Instead of promising presidency, Mr Khan should have told Ch Sarwar to join the party and then participate in the democratic process of election of the party president. Ch Sarwar might have won that election in any case if IK's blessings were with him.
Anyway, it's good that he has joined PTI and let's hope he can convince IK to concentrate on practical tasks in KPK and build their party up by showing results of their hard work in KPK and then they will win the next election regardless.

I hope he is not planted as the other individual who left PTI few months back. Good wishes are with him or anybody in his place who is sincere to the country but I do feel that both the ex-governor and IK were in too much of a hurry to seal the deal, in my view point both should have taken some time before calling the shots.

Javid hashmi who is one of the extraordinary politicans of the country has always worked for principles instead of self ambitions. Same is the case of sarwar. On the other hand, pti which claims for the politics of principles has immensely failed to do so due to which javid hashmi abandoned it and same will the case of sarwar.

Mr. Sarwar joined PTI and within hours, Bhai apologized unconditionally. I am not an expert here but I sense a very serious underlying currents. By the time Senate Elections are over, things will clear out.

Sarwar Sahib has made a very correct decision by joining Imran Khan. He has set a very good example for Pakistanis living abroad. As soon as Imran Khan is elected as PM of Pakistan a large number of well qualified and rich Pakistanis will retuen home.(Insha-Allah)

Lets hope he will bring the much needed sense to PTI and IK will think twice before lashing out of control at MQM and others. What Imran has failed to realize is the importance of restrain and moderation. He too quickly loses his line and length and leave his voters high and dry. He has to be patient, tactful and diplomatic like Zardari. He is more like Shahid Afridi he to be more like Majid Khan and Javed Miandad.

I personally think that those politician goes by trends will not helpful at all. Mr. Imran has to learn many thinks in politics You can change over night situation of your platform. Pakistani community must learn from Indian politicians. Honest politician will not come up we have to struggle very we hard. Imran Khan taking crossing floor politicians will not help him.
