QUETTA: The Frontier Corps killed 15 suspected militants on Tuesday during a gunbattle in Basima and Khori areas of Washuk district. A security man also lost his life in the clash.

A spokesman for Frontier Corps said the forces had launched a search operation in the mountainous area where militants were occupying positions. The militants attacked the security personnel with heavy weapons during the operation. The FC troops retuned the fire.

“A heavy gunbattle continued for several hours, resulting in the death of 15 militants who belong to a banned organisation,” the spokesman said. He said that an FC soldier was also killed in the firing and three others suffered injuries. The injured were taken to Khuzdar in a helicopter.

The spokesman said a huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from the militants’ hideouts.

He said the deceased militants had been involved in attacking and torching vehicles of the Frontier Works Organisation, kidnapping for ransom and creating hurdles in development work in Basima and other areas.
