MOHAMMAD Irfan
MOHAMMAD Irfan

MOHAMMAD Irfan’s unusual height has everyone perplexed. The record books have different versions after he was measured at 6’8” and 6’10”. But his stats are a colossal 7’1”, which stands him apart as the tallest man to play international cricket.

His mere presence on the Adelaide Oval field will no doubt lift Pakistan in the huge Pool ‘B’ game against India today.

The giant left-armer, when on song, regularly clocks 140kph and the steep bounce that only he can generate will play on the minds of the Indian batsmen, who face a tall order when Irfan marks his run-up.

“I know what is expected of me; I have done well against India before so I am confident of doing well again,” says the gentle giant from Gaggu Mandi.

Rohit Sharma, the stylish right-handed opener, has been the mainstay of Indian batting in recent times. His majestic world record ODI knock of 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata last November only lifted him to the top echelon.

With an ODI batting average close to 39, the 27-year-old can be a major threat to Pakistan on Sunday. Though slightly frail against top-quality pace, Rohit’s consistency, exquisite timing, immaculate placement and a wide range of shots certainly give him an edge over opponent bowlers.

Against Pakistan, his moderate stats (matches 10, runs 311, average 34.55) do not signify much about what the 127-ODI veteran can do on his day.

Possessing a fine strike-rate of 81.55, Rohit will certainly be on Pakistan’s radar at the Adelaide Oval.
