MARDAN: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Nawabzada Aurangzeb Khan Hoti on Saturday announced that he had joined the Pakistan People’s Party.

The announcement was made during a news conference at the Mardan Press Club.

PPP provincial president Haji Khanzada Khan, provincial general secretary Engineer Hamayun Khan, provincial information secretary Liaquat Shabab, former senior provincial minister Rahim Dad Khan and a large number of PPP leaders and activists were also in attendance.

Speaking on the occasion, Aurangzeb Hoti said he was impressed by policies and people-friendly measures of the PPP and therefore, he had joined the party.

He said he met PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari lately, held detailed talks with him, and informed him about his decision to join the party. Aurangzeb Hoti said majority of his family members had long been associated with the PPP and worked for the people’s welfare.

He expressed confidence in the PPP leadership and said he would continue working for the people.

Aurangzeb Hoti said the PPP was the only political party, which had roots in all provinces of the country.

While speaking on the occasion, PPP provincial president Haji Khanzada Khan welcomed Nawabzada Aurangzeb Khan to the party and said joining the PPP was his good decision. He said there was no forward bloc in the PPP ahead of Senate elections.

The PPP leader said the final round for the Senate polls began after candidates filed nomination papers.

He said that PPP was the party of martyrdoms which had performed a pivotal role for strengthening democratic system and national institutions in the country.

Former minister Rahim Dad Khan criticised both federal and provincial governments for ‘failing to deliver’ and said the financial condition of poor people, especially those in the province, had worsened.

He said the ruling PML-N in the centre had promised to end power loadshedding after coming to power but it had failed to keep the promise even more than one and a half years after forming the government. “Our government distributed billions of rupees to the poor people under the Benazir Income Support Programme but the current government have failed to launch poor friendly programmes,” he said.
