QUETTA: Forty-two candidates have filed nomination papers for 12 seats of Senate from Balochistan.
Elections will be held on seven general seats, two seats reserved for technocrats, two for women and one for minorities.
Balochistan Election Commissioner Syed Sultan Bayazid has said that 19 candidates have filed nomination papers for seven general seats, six for two seats reserved for women, nine for two seats for ulema/technocrats and eight for one seat for minorities.
The nomination papers would come under scrutiny on Feb 19-20.
Those who filed the papers for general seats are: Sardar Yaqoob Nasir, Nematullah Zehri, Irfan Aziz Kurd and Amir Afzal Khan Mandokhail of PML-N; Usman Kakar and Sardar Mohammed Azam of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP); Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, Mir Kabir Ahmed Mohammed Shai and Dr Yaseen Baloch of National Party (NP); Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Maulana Anwaruddin of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F); and Dr Janzeb Jamaldini of the Balochistan National Party. Yusuf Badini, Abdul Rauf, Hussain Islam, Faiq Ali Jamali, Ahmed Khan, Aslam Buledi and Jan Mohammed Achakzai have filed papers as independent candidates for general seats.
Hafiz Hussain Ahmed and Advocate Malik Sikandar of JUI-F; Mir Kabir Mohammed Shahi, Dr Yaseen Baloch, Mukhtiar Chalgari of NP; Dr Abdul Munaf Tareen of PkMAP; Agha Shahbaz Khan Durrani and Naseebullah Bazai of PML-N; and Engineer Basant Lal Gulshin (independent) filed papers for two seats for Ulema/technocrats.
Kalsum Parveen of PML-N; Nasreen Kethran and Rabia Yaseen of JUI-F; Tahir Khursheed of NP; Gul Bushara of PkMAP; and Sana Jamali (independent) have filed papers for two seats for women.
Amen Daas and Adeel Aziz of JUI-F; Dr Ashok Kumar and Mohan Kumar of NP; Danesh Kumar and Kanwal Wilson of PML-N; and Roshan Khurshed Barocha of PkMAP have filed papers for one seat for minorities.
The final list of candidates would be displayed on Feb 28.
